In the spirit of Valentine’s Da,y the kids and I recently spent some time in the kitchen creating a simple holiday treat for our family to enjoy. We are always looking for ways for the kids to participate in making holiday meals special, and this recipe’s limited ingredients and no-bake element make it a winner.
Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Hearts
Ingredients:
- 2 (12 oz.) bags of semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of powdered sugar
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Directions:
Melt one (12 oz.) bag of chocolate either in a double boiler or by microwaving in short increments, stirring every 30 seconds, for about 2 minutes.
Use a small spoon to evenly distribute melted chocolate into each heart silicon mold cup to about a third full. Gently shake silicon mold to help the chocolate smooth out. Freeze tray for 15 minutes.

While you wait for the first layer of chocolate to firm up, start to combine peanut butter, powdered sugar and butter in a medium bowl. Whip with an electric hand mixer or spatula until smooth. Remove silicon mold from the freezer and place small layer of peanut butter mixture on top of each chocolate layer. Shake molds to help flatten peanut butter layer. Freeze tray for 15 minutes. Melt remaining 12 oz. bag of chocolate. Working quickly, put a final layer of chocolate into each mold, immediately shaking the mold on the counter after each portion of chocolate is added to smooth out the chocolate. Freeze for the last 15 minutes to set the top layer of chocolate.
Pop out and taste test! Your family won’t be disappointed – I just hope you can hold onto some until the big day!!
