Halloween Costume Quest

The search for the perfect kid’s Halloween costume is not what it used to be. The good ol’ days when becoming your favorite movie or tv hero was as simple as looking around the house for items that could be pulled together or a quick trip to a department store the weekend before are over. This annual search has now turned into big business with rules. And the rules aren’t just what your children impose, many schools have banned masks, helmets, weapon-shaped items and/ or costumes that are too gruesome or…skimpy. And of course, let’s not forget the challenge of our unpredictable Canadian weather for the actual night of trick-or-treating. So where does that leave us parents? It leaves us navigating, what I have fondly nicknamed, the Great Costume Quest.

Halloween Costume Options

The hunt for the perfect costume involves hours of planning and discussion, online searches, trips to pop-up costume stores that now fill the retail space once occupied by the department stores. And of course, as the kids get older, it can also include more negotiation then you would have ever thought possible.

We’ve only got two costumes to find this year, and yet we most definitely haven’t had any final decisions as yet. Some of the ideas being kicked around include: fighter pilot, Captain Jack Sparrow, UPS driver (what??), the Island Ninja (for all you ANW fans out there), Percy Jackson, and Magnus Chase. Wish us luck, and we will keep you posted!

What costumes have been favorites in your household?
